SZA
The artist's full name is Solana Imani Rowe. However, her artist name is SZA ( SIZZ-uh). SZA's music has recently come back up to the public's
eye after releasing her newest album "SOS". "SOS'' has been at the top of the Billboard 200 for seven consecutive weeks. Thus makes it the
longest #1 released in 2022. Not only this but the the album itself has spent more total weeks as #1 than any other album released by a female
artist since 2020 by Taylor Swift. As well as the first R&B album to be for the first seven weeks as #1 since 1987 by Whitney Houston.
SZA has recently been getting a lot of hate due to her pronunciation and wording in certain songs. She made it clear that she knew this
wouldn't be an easy life. As even though she makes music for everyone to enjoy, there's always people trying to tear her down. For this reason
SZA made the comparison to Little Richard with his song "Tutti Frutti", as to why he is rewarded and praised by his music and yet her music
is constantly being torn apart. As if this wasn't enough she is even accused of creating "sad-girl music", is this bad all of a sudden? Many
people like slower and possibly "sad music". Everyone has different preferences as to their choice in music.
I personally do not like R&B along with music described as the "blues". However it wasn't until I truly began to listen to the music and relate
to certain lyrics along with messages that I felt connected to this genre of music. I personally love SZA's music, she clearly puts her all into
her music.
My sister started to listen to R&B before me then introduced it to me. As she began to play the music many times; in the shower, road trips,
grocery runs, literally at any time ... it definitely grew on me. My sister was definitely my connection to the R&B world and I couldn't be
happier about it. We are now able to enjoy our favorite songs together and even have certain songs that play and it immediately reminds us
of each other. We like to call them "our songs". These songs hold a lot of meaning to us, whether we were listening to the song and laughed
over a joke, certain lyrics resembled our own life's, pain from past relationships, etc.
The new album "SOS" holds many favorites of ours. Some of these are I Hate U, Good Days, Snooze, Love Language, Gone Girl, & Blind.
However our overall favorite song from the album is "I Hate U.
It may seem like a strong title for a song but it say what a lot of people feel at times. For me when I listen to this song it is as if I'm leaving
behind certain experiences, relationships, friendships, and more. The phrase "I Hate U" within the song I feel is a sense of liberation for
many to be able to express themselves through music.
Me and my sister have a way of not necessarily expressing our emotions through hugs or phrases like "I love you " as many other peopledo. But one thing we can both forever agree on is the joy that artists bring to our lives and with a simple song from them we are able to
show our love. Music is held very dearly to our hearts and will forever help us express ourselves.
